Questions we get asked

Short answers to the things people ask before they get in touch.

Which projectors do you repair?

Standard 8, Super 8 and 16mm cine projectors, and most slide projectors, from the 1950s through to the last ones built in the eighties. If it's electrical and mechanical rather than digital, I'll have a look.

How much does a service cost?

It depends on the machine and what's failed, but a straightforward belt-and-lamp service is modest. Send the make and the fault and I'll quote before any work starts.

Can you find parts for an old machine?

Often. I keep belts, lamps and common spares, and I can make or adapt where originals are gone. Some parts are genuinely unobtainable and I'll tell you straight if yours is one.

My projector eats film. Can that be fixed?

Usually. It's nearly always worn sprockets, a hardened gate or a perished belt throwing the timing out. Bring it before you run anything precious through it.

Do I post it or bring it?

Either. Plenty of people post machines in from across the country; locals drop off in Sheffield. I'll tell you how to pack it so it survives the courier.
